TAKING OVARIAN CANCER TO THE MAT By Sue Van Der Hout

Stop silent killers.

Ovarian cancer is a disease that invades the body almost undetected, as the signs and symptoms are subtle. Seven out of ten women do not survive this disease. All women are at risk; regardless of age, ethnicity and socio-economic background. Presently, there is no reliable early detection test. Education and awareness are the best tools for improving survival.

The National Ovarian Cancer Association (NOCA), dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer, was founded in 1997. In 2001, NOCA launched the Celebrate the Women in Our Lives luncheon. This month it hosted its 6th Annual Celebrate the Women in Our Lives luncheon, featuring a discussion moderated by Patricia Lovett-Reid, Senior Vice President, TD Waterhouse, author, and host of ROBTv MoneyTalk. A panel comprised of an ovarian cancer survivor, a medical practitioner and a corporate leader will share their opinions, messages and personal experiences.
