WOMEN IN UNCONVENTIONAL WORK and getting girls to go there
When women (and girls) pursue challenges in fields still dominated by men we create opportunity, confidence, stand as equals and make an impact. We make more money. The US Census reports that the median earnings of women working in computer and mathematical jobs, was the highest for women among the 22 major occupational groups.
In this issue we present the roadmap of women who have redefined success from a women´s perspective in areas where women have been actively discouraged from going: technology; finance; the auto industry; insurance; speakers; the military; and film. Want to change the economic landscape? Get girls into unconventional work.
| "Girls need to see women in unconventional roles so that they can picture themselves that way. Fortunately medicine and dentistry have changed, but many other jobs have not" Dr. Karen Pepper, Dentist, Toronto, Ontario |
