FIXIN’ CARS By Sue Van Der Hout

Bored of the desk jockey routine? Consider…

Frances Dubach recognized opportunity knocking. In her case, it was the clinking sound of popping the caps, unfastening nuts and changing a tire.

Frances works for the Canadian Automobile Association fixing cars. A friend was leaving his job there and encouraged her to apply. After all, the money was far better than she could make in an office. So Frances took the plunge. The going is good – she’s on the road, has a new challenge about every 20 minutes and the pay is the kind that makes the guys sit up and take notice.

Sure Frances is often covered in engine grease, but she finds that as jobs go, that´s where the dollars stick. Now why don’t they teach that in high school?
